- You lost all your website content? All gone. Disappeare
d. Never to be seen again.
- Your website got broken into and all the content replaced with spammy links and ads
- Your website visitors got to your online home only to be told it wasn’t safe and for them to get the hell out of there.
A question for you…
How would a broken website be good for business?
It wouldn’t be good. In fact, it would be terrible. Would you know how to fix it? Do you have the time to learn?
Let’s talk WordPress Maintenanc
Would you drive your car without ever changing the oil?
No, of course you wouldn’t! Regular maintenance is necessary to keep things running smoothly.
So why would you think your WordPress website doesn’t require regular maintenance?
The #1 reason for a website going wonky is a lack of regular maintenance.
- Slow load times
- Loss of data
Any of these can ruin a great website and cost you sales.
WordPress and all of it’s components – themes, plugins, and the database – require regular maintenance to keep your site running smoothly. The core bits of code that make up your site get updates on a regular basis. The database gets clogged up with overhead. That backup you think you are making gets lost when your hosting company suffers a hardware failure.
Ask yourself this:
When was the last time you logged into WordPress and did a thorough cleanup and maintenance?
Now ask yourself:
What would happen if you lost all of your website content?
How much time do you have available to recreate that website from scratch?
You’ve already spent a great deal of time and effort creating the site, writing all the content, picking out the best photos, and writing some wonderful blog posts. Do you really want to do it all over again?
Wouldn’t you like the peace of mind of knowing that your site is secure from hackers? That your backups are done regularly and are stored in a safe place? That your site could be restored completely even if there is a massive failure at your webhost?
You can have that peace of mind by signing up for a maintenance package. There are 4 different packages to choose from, whether your website is small and rarely updated or chock full of content with regular updates and blog posts.
Leave the geeky stuff to Pint Sized Sites!
You could spend days looking all this stuff up on the web, learning and relearning it every month, or you could just let an expert handle it for you.
WordPress is my thing. I spend all day up to my elbows in WordPress, so I already know how to do all of this stuff and I know how to do it right! No matter how big or small your business and budget are, I have a WordPress Maintenance package just for you.
What you get:
Your website is written in computer code and this code gets updated on a regular basis. The updates are done to fix bugs or close a security hole, so it’s absolutely vital that the updates are done. We don’t want visitors to see an error or have their computers infected with some nasty internet virus, do we? No, so we need to keep things up to date. What gets updated?
WordPress – This is the core program that your website or blog runs on. This is the equivalent of Windows or OS X, the operating system.
Themes – This is the program that gives your site its look and feel. This is what makes it pretty.
Plugins – These are like apps that run in the background adding functionality. Some common plugins are contact forms, slide shows, SEO, and memberships.
What’s the database, you ask? That’s where all of your web page text, blog posts, users, settings, and comments are stored. If your website were a book, the database is all the chapters, table of contents, and index in that book. Without the database, there wouldn’t be anything to see. So, your database will be copied and that copy will be stored in “The Cloud”. This is a fancy way of saying that your database backup will be stored on a different computer than where your website is located. Too many people backup their sites to their web host. What happens
if when there is a computer failure? They lose the website and all of the backups. Since we don’t want that to happen to you, your backup will be stored offsite in a cloud server.
The cloud? The cloud is a bunch of computers all over the world that are connected together. They are continually backed up and, if one of them fails, another computer takes over with no loss of data or time. Pint Sized Sites uses industry leading cloud services. No amateur stuff here.
A lot of WordPress users don’t understand that a database backup is not enough. It doesn’t include your photos, your theme, or your plugins. All of those would have to be painstakingly added back if the site had to be rebuilt. Fortunately, a full backup will include all of that extra stuff, so the site can be restored quickly. These backups take up more disk space. Sites that are rarely updated don’t require as many full backups and that saves on disk space.
Number of Backups stored
This is the number of backup copies stored in the cloud. If your site were to ever be infected or the data corrupted, there should be an older copy that is clean and complete.
Protection from Hackers
I use industry leading tools to secure your website from hackers. Included in the security package is a Sucuri subscription. Sucuri is the #1 security service on the internet. They continually monitor your site and clean things up should your site get hacked. If your site gets hacked and blacklisted by the search engines, such as Google, they will do the work necessary to get you off that black list.
That database mentioned above? It gets cluttered up with gunk. Old revisions, broken links, that sort of thing. Having a messy database can slow down your website. The optimization includes cleaning all of the gunk out and making things run smoother and faster.
When was the last time you cleaned out your spam folder? All of those spam comments can slow things down. I don’t sort through them, but I will clean that spam folder up. A tidy website is a happy website.
Every now and then a client breaks something. They install a plugin and everything goes wonky. They need expert help. Don’t waste your time trying to figure out how to fix the white screen of death – I do this all the time. I can fix most problems in less than an hour and have your website back to normal.
Have you ever moved house? You know what a nightmare that can be. Boxing things up, renting a truck, loading and unloading, and unpacking? It makes my back hurt just thinking about it. Sometimes, your website outgrows your webhost. Or maybe the service at your webhost isn’t as good as it used to be.
There are times when it’s necessary to pack up your WordPress website and move it across town, so to speak. The migration support takes care of the packing, moving and unpacking for you. This is something I do every week moving websites from development to their final destinations and I’ve got it down to a fine art.
Why not do it yourself?
I’m not going to lie to you, maintaining your own website is something you can learn to do yourself. It just takes time and some premium plugins. But your time is worth money and not all of the plugins and services are free. Here is what you will save by letting Pint Sized Sites take care of your website.
