Did you know?
According to the US Census Bureau in October 2012, out of 14,441,089 businesses surveyed, a whopping 75.2 % of business owners did not have a website.
Are you in the UK? It’s not much better, a report by BaseKit in May 2012 found that 60% of UK small businesses are yet to “get online”.
So, if you’re one of them …
Join us for this free 90 minute webinar and we’ll show you what you need to build your first website and, more importantly, how to avoid wasting time and money.
Whether you end up getting your site built by someone else or build your own, this webinar will teach you the basics.
You’ll either be well informed about what to ask your designer, or you’ll know what you have to consider first to begin building it yourself.
A little background
While teaching Business Blogging School and talking to website design clients, we’ve discovered that many small business owners feel intimidated by the language and technicalities about how to get a website that works.
Dawn (from Gone Solo) and I were talking the other day about how many new small and solo business owners put off building their websites because they genuinely haven’t got a clue who to ask, what to ask and what they should avoid.
Want an example? “When I (Dawn) got my first website built I remember being utterly lost at the language and techie speak. What I ended up asking the designers to build was not what I needed. The site ran into 4-figures, and in the year it was live, it didn’t work. 9 interested clients. Yes. 9. Big fail.”
Who’s fault was it?
Dawn admits that a big part of the fault lies with her. She didn’t have a clue about what was needed to create a website that works, so she ended up with a beautiful website that didn’t help her business.
Too many of my friends and clients have created their first website and believed that all they needed to do was ‘build it and they will come”. They lacked the knowledge in how to use the website as one part of their marketing strategy.
I see many people just taking the fastest path to ‘getting something online’. There are companies an tools that make getting online fast and easy, but the results end up rather disappointing. They end up with a website that is unattractive, confusing, and lacking any of the simple things that make it easy for search engines like Google and Bing to point customers to their website. Getting seen online is where it matters and where you need to put in a pile of work.
On the webinar, Dawn will tell you about her second site that cost $100, which worked great, and the reasons why.
